CPT Jack Durish Interesting perspective. The unspoken truth here is that you cannot legislate behavior.

Taking a deep breath...I don't know where to begin.
First I enjoyed the click bait link spread across the article titled "Bill O'Reilly Dead At 64 - O'Reilly Targeted By Shooter..." on energyvigorouspro.com. Nice sponsor The Daily Wire website has. Couldn't help myself, it was the very first thing at the top of the article.
Second, why are we comparing single incidents of mass shootings with monthly murder numbers of any given city which in this case is Chicago? One has nothing to do with the other. Why do we keep addressing a city's gun laws when a person can obtain guns from other locations legally or illegally? A city that resides in a dry county doesn't mean folks that live in the city don't have access to alcohol. A city that resides in a county that bans porn doesn't mean folks don't have access to pornography. Gang violence in Chicago is unacceptable but this has nothing to do with the random mass shooting in Las Vegas. As I told you in a previous post, Las Vegas has little to do with gun control and it also has little to do with gang violence in a city; the number of deaths is not a common denominator that should be used as a discussion point.

"Why do so many people (in America) choose to deflect when issues of racial, social, and economic injustices are mentioned?"
Because it makes some folks uncomfortable to talk about it and some would rather pretend it doesn't exist. To me, these are the conversations worth having if we as a people (regardless of color) want things to change.

MAJ the comparison matters. After this recent shooting and after any other large mass shooting, there is this large uproar for gun control from Democrats and celebrities. Yet there is no outrage when this death toll happens every single month in places like Chicago. If the goal of gun control is to save lives, they are very selective of which lives they are focusing on saving. When this control rhetoric comes out only when a tragedy happens it shows the true colors of the gun control lobby: it isn't about saving lives. It is all about capitalizing on the emotions revolving a tragedy to gain more social control.

SPC Casey Ashfield - You're right there is no national outrage about the mass number of deaths related to crime and gang violence in Chicago and the many residents of Chicago and nearby communities are only seen themselves spotlighted by Dems or GOP when an act of terror, mass shooting, or debate on gun control and rights have made national attention. Before BLM, before these mass shootings, before the gun control discussion during the Obama administration, those that bring up Chicago violence now never cared about the violence before; outrage only exists for those impacted.
Lets drop the gun control rhetoric by Dems and GOP because it is ridiculous and insulting that anytime there is a mass shooting in America today Libs shout gun control and NRA while Conservatives shout Chicago, BLM, and Anti-Fa.
There is no comparison other than worthless rhetoric by both sides. It would be nice if one can make an argument without comparing gang violence to terrorism to lone wolf mass shootings. Trying to apply gun control measures to any of those incidents will be different for each of those incidents. Neither gun control through restrictions nor gun proliferation by increased emphasis on citizen carry are long term solutions.

SP5 Christine Conley - There is no solution because there is no problem. The CDC released a study that defensive gun use (people using firearms to defend themselves or others) occurs about 1.2 MILLION times per year. On average there are about 30,000 firearm related suicides and homicides a year. Those numbers equal that someone is 40 times more likely to use a firearm for defense than to commit suicide or homicide.
