What an interesting situation. This is what happens when people are allowed to freely associate. Form ghettos of their own making. They begin to feel autonomous, set apart from others. Then, if they feel that the "others" are holding them back, divide themselves like amoebas. But those who benefit from the prosperity of the self imposed ghetto, don't want to let it go. Thus, we resort to democracy and let the mobs decide. What's next? Will the Catalans simply move to another nation? There's plenty of precedent for such a solution. We have several enclaves of the wealthy from France and China forming new ghettos in Southern California and now California is agitating to leave the union. Yes, we do live in interesting times.

Catalonia was a nation before it was conquered , they have their own language and culture. Ghetto is a term that does not apply in this case, they have always been separate much like the Basques

I actual know what Ghettos are and the places where the term was coined. If you are there becuse it is the only option it is a ghetto if you are there because you choose to be it is not.
