I remember when my son was getting ready to leave for Parris Island and he said he would have a hard time not laughing when the Drill Instructors did some of the things I told him they might do. I assured him there would be nothing funny about it and laughing would be the furthest think from his mind.

When we saw him the day before graduation I asked him how many laughs he had from the Drill Instructors shenanigans. He looked at me and said not a single one. I said, funny how that works. It will seem funny when you look back on it. Never funny when you are living through it.

The wake up call starts moment one and doesn't end until you march across the parade deck for the last time.

I remember laughing once, when I saw a fly or some other insect land on the brim of one of my drill instructor's smokey. It wasn't a real laugh, more like a snicker. I don't remember how long I was on the quarterdeck, but I remember almost passing out there.

"First time someone yells at me, I'm swinging" is always a pleasant phrase to laugh at when said.

I've had people tell me the same thing and I just respond with that even if you owned your own business you would always be answering to your customer base.
