Reading a Bloomberg article posted on RP earlier on this subject, it noted that in the late 1800s, the GOP was the anti-Catholic Party and continued to be so even as JFK was elected as the first Catholic president. Now the Dems are being labeled the anti-Catholic Party as the GOP assumed the anti-Muslim mantra. And with Sen. Feinstein being Jewish, does that means other American Jews have similar pre-dispositions of American Catholics?
What I do know from attending one of the largest private Catholic universities in the U.S., I met Catholics that felt the need to impose their beliefs on non-Catholics that attended the school. It wasn't the school officials encouraging this, it was mere arrogance of some within the community. When Romney was a candidate, everyone was concerned and critical of his Mormon background. It's safe to say the question of religious bias will always be asked of a government official who will be responsible for being objective and for enforcing local, state, and federal laws.
