The problem is not pay, what base your at, ect it’s the Air Force’s culture that runs off pilots, aircrews and maintainers.
As a former USAF CSAR guy I can tell you that the political correctness and victim mentality the Air Force has adopted service wide is not conducive to retaining good war fighters.
The USAF is more concerned with have you done your volunteer hours, completed your Equal opportunity classes, sexual assault awareness training, yearly fire extinguisher training along with about a billion other worthless training events than the are about can you fly, kill the enemy and win a war.

SSG (Join to see) I agree, sir! They are more concerned with running Big Blue like a business, instead of a war program. At least it appears that CSAF & CMSAF are trying to correct the path from the previous occupiers of those positions. But it's A LOT of corrections to make in a limited amount of time in those positions.

I was the training department supervisor in my last command in the Navy, and a swear I spent at least half my time running around trying to get people to do their GMT. It was such a waste of time. If the miilitary thinks that grown adults need to be told on a yearly basis not to kill themselves, don't rape people, don't drink and drive, maybe they should rethink who they are letting in.

But, currently, I think the powers that be are working on the idea of a 'flight track' for those the just want to be pilots; they don't care about going further in leadership roles. I think that would work better. I can see enlisted pilots, but they would be for cargo missions due to the requirement of having to be commissioned to fly attack craft - is why enlisted drone pilots are only intel drones, and not attack drones.

Had a track for it in college rotc back in 2011. They cut pilots slots left and right back then.

No it wouldn’t. They would leave for the same reasons officers do. In fact, the pay in the outside world would be even more seductive.

SSgt (Join to see) What the Air Force needs is a no competition clause in pilots contracts stating that for ten years after leaving the Air Force they cannot work in a competing industry. No FEDEX, UPS, or Airline flying. That is not realistic, but then who would have thought that this come about?

Non-compete contracts rarely stand up to a legal challenge; especially when it entirely rules out their chosen career path.

That is not how you treat people. Would you volunter to serve in a field that you are passionate about if it meant not being allowed to do it after you separate? If such a clause was in my enlistment contract I would have left the recruiter's so fast his head would have spun. Even 1-3 years is too long, you would lose currency in your field and you would not be able to get a job in it.

Bad idea and probably illegal. You serve an agreed amount of time and then do whatever. This idea would absolutely CRUSH morale and KILL the influx of new aviators.

For those that think a non compete clause is ridiculous. What if you were to attach that clause only to the first contract period along with allowing pilots to be warrant officers? It would give pilots more flight time along with keeping the Airlines at bay a little longer.
