Let's get this straight. We don't have political divisions. We have ideological divisions. Once upon a time, all political parties shared common goals. Disagreements arose over methodology. Today, we are divided by ideology. Those who value their independence and individuality have far different goals than those who fear theirs because with independence and individuality come freedom/free will and with that comes responsibility. It appears that at least half of Americans fear responsibility. Well they should. They haven't been prepared for it. Their parents failed to prepare them. Their schools failed them. Their places of worship have failed them. Interestingly, those who fear responsibility the most huddle together in masses, in major metropolitan areas and on campuses where they feel safe like members of a herd. The rugged individualists prefer the open spaces where they can hunt and fish and fend for themselves. The herd calls those places "fly-over country" and avoid it. Look at the maps of the results of the last election. These groups are clearly indicated in red and blue...

Your right sir. I have much respect for middle America especially the few times visiting my friends in Ohio and Missouri. There has been a major cultural shift and division in regards to the coast cities and those places known as fly over states. I don't believe most coast types mean it but they kinda look down on those living in these fly over states or view their views as irrelevant because the coast cities because of the prestige of the coast cities and states. That's why I voted for Trump and the Republican candidates last ellection because they seemed to be the only ones that were really listening to Middle America and trying to reach out to these states because these states are the economic back bone of our nation.

I can't read the article (not a subscriber), but based on the Headline, I think I might agree. The American population on the Left and Right are further retreating into their Echo Chambers, where they will believe EVERYTHING they see and hear without question, and amp themselves up without engaging in intelligent dialogue.

While my first instinct is to believe this, I don't know. I mean the 1860 election literally sent us into a civil war...Hard to see things from the historical perspective sometimes

LTC Orlando Illi - Small geographically, but large population centers. This is one of the reasons I am such a libertarian - what works in rural Ohio, does not work in Urban NYC. I just assume let NY be crazy liberal in their own city and let my community in Ohio be less so. That is what I see as the beauty in the original framers' design.
I do believe we would tend to agree on this Sir!

MAJ (Join to see) - The only problem with this line of thinking eventually the crazies on the left will want every county in every state to conform to their ideology they are not and will not be content with just their community.

SFC Bernard Walko - I'm still going to have to disagree with you there. The War between the states resulted in the deaths of more than 620,000 people. The media would have you believe that the divisions are far greater than they really are. I would guess the actual number of physically violent morons on both sides would probably be under 20,000 at its highest. If we stopped giving these idiots attention, then they would be relegated to the back burner like they have been for 50+ years.

SFC Bernard Walko - While that is a possibility, I have the feeling it would be a very short repeat...
