This is the strongest hurricane to ever form in the Atlantic basin and has another on its tail, Jose. We have already boarded up here in Daytona and getting the generators ready. This could be worse than Harvey with those kinds of wind and the projected path up the Eastern Seaboard.

Yes, this will be a wind event, wherever it decides to go. At this point also looks like a typical hurricane that will hit and move on unlike Harvey that stayed for days and dumped the rain that caused all the flooding.

I am afraid a Cat 5 in open ocean will just get worse when it hits the Keys and warmer waters. I have gone through more than a dozen Cat 3's and above. Not looking forward to it wherever it goes. You stay safe!

Right now all of South Florida within danger zone. All tourists have been ordered to leave the Keys, resident evacuations probably coming. Think Harvey is doing more harm than good as we prepare for Irma. No matter where it decides to go there isn't going to be any stalling and dumping 50"+ of rain that caused all the flooding in Texas. Yet people who haven't been through a Florida hurricane panicking that there will be another Houston.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen You are right, but with Category 5 winds, it could blow a lot of roofs off. We still have buildings with damage from Matthew last year, and thank God it didn't hit our coast full force.

Think Cuba will take a lot out of those winds but either way Irma is going to be a wind event wherever it decides to go. Sounds like it will be Fri or Sat before Florida will really know where in the state it's headed. Stay safe.
