I understand the need to disperse the fleet, and me being an Air Force guy this is just my opinion. This sounds like they're griping for money, there are ships there and more inbound. I get none of them are nuclear carriers but they are ships nonetheless. Being that I used to live in Jax and still stationed in FL, I don't agree with moving a carrier nor building nuclear facilities in the area. I would say pick another more northern base, the required facilities would probably be too much of a risk given the weather (hurricanes) routinely associated with the location. Not to mention remember the fights we are fighting are shifting and the Navy along with the other forces are pivoting to handle that change, maybe Mayport doesn't fit that shifting force posture. Just be glad the facility is still open and you are getting ships and stop griping for "wants," the moves are in the interest of military necessity not city/location preference of the local residents. Again I'm no expert but this is my personal opinion.

You may not know that crime is insane in Jacksonville. Until the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office goes through a review to see why they are not doing the job I would not put more ships there . I wish I didn't live here . I am not exaggerating . It is the murder capitol of the south now. The Navy shouldn't risk the lives of sailors , nor lower their morale by stationing them here .

I've lived in Jacksonville since 2011. I don't have the slightest idea of what you're talking about Cpl. "Murder capitol of the south"? What's your source? Because according to the FBI, the murder rate in Norfolk VA is higher than Jax.
