Just because the lunatics are running the asylum, you can still celebrate Columbus Day. You can celebrate anything you want with or without government sanction. Now go, be free...

That would make it the fifth state (along with Alaska, Hawaii, South Dakota, and Oregon) to not celebrate Columbus Day, and follows close to South Dakota's Native American Day. Vermont switched to Indigenous Peoples Day last year; it wasn't permanent, though.

Well Hawaii does observe Columbus Day it's a Federal Holiday so State Government is off.

It's apparently still called Discovers' Day on the Hawaiian side for the Polynesian explorers who settled Hawaii.

CW4 Guy Butler The states you mentioned do have high population of indigenous people so that makes sense.

If anyone takes the time to study pre-California history, they will appreciate your comment. At one point in time, one third of the total population of what we refer to as Native Americans, lived there. Columbus had nothing to do with their loss of land and society.
