As a former assistant NBC NCO for my company, these photos were very disturbing. That cleanup job cost a lot of lives.

Those guys have done all kinds of surprising (and often stupid) stuff. It might not surprise you to learn that the Chernobyl drive-by was not the closest they came to death while filming that show.

Involved with nukes my entire career. Learned lots during my time in Nuclear Safety and enough to know don't want to go anywhere near this place. Worked with an IT contractor in 2000s who was actually from Chernobyl. He had some interesting stories about being told they had to get out and what followed. Admitted it was his family's ticket to get to US.

Many of the children of those who lived in Chernobyl had a variety of disabilities similar to the Japanese at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I remember when I was living in Ohio, there were warnings of possible radiation spreading throughout the world. I heard there was contamination of dairy cows in Western Europe. It was a nasty accident.

Yes it was that. Speaking to children developing disabilities,don't know if true but, apparently families with skills were first out and those with lesser skills stayed longer. Somehow sounds so typical Soviet Union.

I worked with a couple from Russia, she was a physician and he flew helicopters. Both went into Anesthesia in the US. Interesting to talk to them.
