All that is a good assessment, but I saw no mention of the fact that everything outside of Kabul is run by tribal chieftains, sheiks, or warlords. There is no "central government" outside of Kabul, so trying to build an effective force that has authority and the muscle to back it up is a huge task. Unless they have a garrison in every village, there will never be effective central governance outside of Kabul.

That's a very enlightening assessment ssg thanks for sharing I'm trying to understand more about the issues of Afghanistan and this helps. The doctrine your describing sound a little like what General David Petraeus authored in Iraq trying to set up small COP in districts within the city of Iraq but your right as you described that will not be as practical in Afghanistan.

Everyone has tried a different way at giving the central government power outside of Kabul.... utter success was not seen - be it British, Russian, Taliban or US...
