I give my license/reg and carry permit....Never had a problem. In fact I was thanked and told that was the best protocol to put everybody at ease by more than one LEO.

One small gesture, an olive branch to help demonstrate you are not a threat to officers, is to turn on your dome light if stopped at night. This will help the officer see inside the vehicle without relying as much on their flashlight for night stops. I have been stopped several times at night and have been thanked by every officer just for turning on the overhead light before putting my hands on the wheel.

Being a LEO, but not a cop, (While I was a "street cop" for eight years, currently I work PT as an investigator for the state medical examiner's office. Not a "cop", just like a FBI agent says they are not a cop.) If I am going through a checkpoint or pulled over, I don't go digging for my operator's license or registration. They don't know what you are digging for. If at night, I turn on the interior lights, open my window, and place my open hands on the top of my steering wheel. When asked for my OL, I say, "I'm armed. My weapon is ____ (usually my right hip). My credentials (or wallet) is in my left rear pocket." I them wait for them to instruct me how they want me retrieve my wallet. I carry my OL and a CW in my credential wallet with my badge and ID. LEOs have the same issue as licensed civilians. And, no cop like the old "badge flash" when they come up on the vehicle. It just looks like you're trying to get out of a ticket. If I did wrong, no argument from me. That's what court is for.
