I did two years enlisted and I still listen to my noncommissioned officers. At least with the major rank, they're all retention boards that keep you if you've been passed over twice so if you don't get approved for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel you at least have a chance for a third or fourth try as long as you need height and weight and you have no negative evaluation reports. I am in the zone next year so hopefully I get promoted.

12 year Mustang here, and agree totally on NCOs. Many of most valuable and trusted mentors were and are senior NCOs and in one case, a particularly exceptional junior NCO.

I just always remember that while all majors are equal, sergeants major are more equal than others.

LTC (Join to see) - nobody is infallible. That E2 may know the regulation that others don't remember.

LTC (Join to see) - yes I sergeant major is attached to a hip to a lieutenant colonel or higher so you need to listen to him and you better know you are a hundred percent right before you disagree with a command sergeant major.

I also did 12 years enlisted, but I've still (hopefully) got two promotions left in my career and I'm definitely NOT on any kind of fast track.

LCDR (Join to see) - Not quite. I don't have any combat deployments (not for lack of trying) and delayed promotions twice on account of postponing OBC for two years so I could finish law school and Captain's Career Course a few years due to a very high civilian workload, putting me three years behind my officer year group when I promoted to major in 2015.

Fortunately I enlisted at age 17, and won't hit MRD (age 60) for another ten years. I think since completing Captains Career Course I've transitioned from Methusala to Superstar (ILE complete, hooah!), with strong Mustang and Weirdo tendencies.

LCDR (Join to see) They missed one, "The Resentful Mustang". This guy had a real problem with his SNCOs when he was enlisted and got his commission in order to "Fix the Problem". He does everything he can to undermine the SNCOs in his unit and will tell the MSgt that his butter bars mean he outranks them.

This is an example of an officer who is amazingly, profoundly STUPID. Some one once said "utilize ALL resources.
