Yes, it has been true for a long time the CG is not part of the DoD as they are assigned to DHS. They like to say they are part of the armed forces. Normally they are not. In war time, sometimes they are. Rest assured, this admiral will do as he is ordered or he will be "reassigned" to retirement. Some people are pretty stupid. He wins the prize for the week with that unnecessary comment that will lead to careericide if he is not careful.

Any of you want to bet? This USCG commandant is one of the best we've had for years, going back to Thad Allen. Our current leader ain't going nowhere. BTW, he's not the only Chief of Staff or any other flag in the JCS who has brought this subject up since Trump's tweet.

SCPO (Join to see) - None of the others said they were not going to break faith which sounds a lot like resisting the order. If he does that, he is in trouble. The other leaders only said the tweet was not a policy, and they would wait direction from the DoD. Not the same thing.

Cpl Jeff N. - As the Chairman himself first said a day after Trump's microscopic missive, and I quote, "A tweet is not an order." End quote.

The Coast Guard as established January 28, 1915, shall be a military service and a branch of the armed forces of the United States at all times. The Coast Guard shall be a service in the Department of Homeland Security, except when operating as a service in the Navy.
The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ, 64 Stat. 109, 10 U.S.C. ... The UCMJ applies to all members of the Uniformed services of the United States: the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Corps, and Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.
Splitting hairs with words does not change the fact they are part of the Armed services

I know I am just making fun of our puddle jumping sister service. They have served by the Navy's side in every major conflict.

There was a time when a military guy would never openly disagree with the president.

Really? When was that.
Best dust off your history books, Sir!
Never learned about MacArthur in '51?
How about all the Generals under Lincoln?
When was this time in American history, that you describe, Sir?

MAJ (Join to see) - I'm going to go with 1841 - President Harrison. I don't think any military people openly disagreed with him while he was President.
