If the 6th-gen is manned at all, it's an incredible waste of time and money.

I know you didn't mean this form of "manned", but... self-flying fighters is a scary, scary thought.

SSgt Ryan Sylvester - Why? The hard limit on aircraft performance has always been GLOC'n the pilots. Remove them, and unmanned fighters could probably double their performance.

SN Greg Wright - Well, there's a difference between unmanned and self-flying. Yeah, the former definitely has benefits. The latter... well, I don't really feel comfortable handing over stealth fights and bombers to Skynet.

SSgt Ryan Sylvester - That's what's going to happen though. Machines and computers are going to do it better and faster.

Funny thing is is when you have a working operational device and the government comes back and states add this V10 engine in this space that will hold a V6, kinda pushes things to the right a little... Have to understand that with technology, comes technology failures... How many times did it take Edison to get the light bulb to work? Just stating, the government throws those jobs out there with a pie in the sky effort and these companies are doing their best to make it happen. The company that shows the most advancement, whether it actually works or not at that time, that has proven the concept, might win the proposal. It is now proving the concept and making it a reality that can be difficult! Remember - pie in the sky is nothing more than a dream of what I wish I had in my hands! These companies bust their asses every day to put the best possible equipment in our war fighters hands. The government pressures are immensely insane, but they have been doing it for years. Mistakes happen and yes, sometimes the shortcuts work and sometimes they don't, but who knew a short-cut called nuking an egg until it was done? Welcome to fast-food! Just saying, these folks work just as hard as those in uniform - I've seen them and worked with them!
