I don't believe that you can even begin this debate without first defining the terms. When someone says that something is going to "make the world better", you better have a good idea of what is "better". For example, many people advocate that a guaranteed living wage, free healthcare, free food, free housing, et al, is better. Is it really? What is left when all challenges are removed? What kind of a life is that? Is it really better?

AI can be a really good thing, or a really bad thing. It all depends on what lessons the creator decides to teach it, and what it learns after that time. What could make AI truly dangerous is how much of our world right now is run off of computers. I can see why people say that it is dangerous. It really all comes down to how you go about building that AI, and what personality you create. Making another Einstein might be helpful . . . . Making another Jeff Dahmer, well it was a nice idea some will say . . . . If they are still alive that is.
