Headline is misleading. The CG is just announcing the launching as a Notice to Mariners and because the CG has great PR with those on Kodiak Island. CG doesn't what hundreds of mariners and those living in remote areas to report UFO or an incoming round

BTW, CG did have Harpoon missiles on some 378's.

LTJG Richard Bruce Yeah I realized it after reading it the second time. The first time I read it I interpreted it as the Army were there for the installation of the system and the test, then it was turned over to the Coast Guard. Incidentally I am not opposed to that idea.

Missile test has nothing to do with Coast Guard, it's a test of a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system, Army Missile System.

CMC Chris Ruppart I had to read it twice before I realized I misread it the first time. Though I wouldn't be opposed to the Coast Guard manning those sites. They are the best equipped to do so in Alaska, and the operators of both surface vessels and aircraft do train for dealing with the harsh environment so (theoretically) would be better equipped to get to the remote sites in any weather condition.
