Because Context Matters more than Headlines
The Survey states: an increasing majority of Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents now say that they believe universities and colleges have a negative effect on our country.... on the effect of colleges and universities have dramatically changed over a relatively short period of time.

In addition to higher education, the study also looked at the public opinion of the impact of the news media, churches and religious organizations, impact of banks and other financial institutions, and labor unions.

And it does HOWEVER how in the bluest of Hells does one come to that opinion? I don't know about you, but I don't want someone operating on me or managing my money that didn't go to college.

Also, note the source I got it from. Sure it was posted on several other sites but the fact that it's from CNS should make some of you take pause

SSG Michael Hartsfield - The context of the poll is the topic not the source. You are pitting the question and answer that again evil Republicans hate colleges and universities. Get the poll question. Submit that. Republicans are stating that the effect of colleges and universities is negative, see University of Missouri as an example.

LTC (Join to see) - Ok. Did you read the comments at the bottom of that topic? Also, I would LOVE to get that poll question but this is what we got so....
And yes, U of M and UC Berkeley do have a crap reputations but they aren't the only universities in the nation nor the gold standard that other universities are gauged by.

As a conservative and college graduate, I believe the headline is a little skewed. The negative impact most of my belief exists in the liberal influence that is so prevalent in our colleges and universities.

My reason for this belief is what is going on on campuses with one sided attitudes who shout down and deny equal free expression and ability to question the status quo of liberal professors. This alone has a very negative impact on our educational system and the future of the stability of our Constitution and way of life.

Ok. How is the "liberal influence" negatively impacting our education system? As a person attending college to become an educator, it has been my observations that colleges hold the intellects, the thinkers and the skeptics, people that are currently being shunned and belittled by "little c" conservatives. Also, if you feel that this "liberal influence" has a very negative impact on our educational system and the future of the stability of our Constitution and way of life" then what are your ideas to change it?

How about the word tolerance being reintroduced into the system. Very little exists there today. Again, look at the refusal of many universities students to allow conservatives to speak on campus although those with liberal ideas are allowed without harassment. When they use their right to violate my right...well then you have a negative impact.
