Pretty decent article. But there is one problem and fallacy that it continues to use as an excuse, and that is this: "It is also possible that this diaspora community, given the weakness of state institutions in their country of origin, the arbitrariness of its corruption-riddled administrations for centuries, and a certain lack of rootedness that comes from being dropped into someone else’s culture and way of doing things, is fine with a bit of finagling of welfare benefits." There might be a current weakness of state institutions (but why is that?), but it is pure BS that those countries administrations have been corruption-riddled for centuries. Using the example of Afghanistan - the history of Afghanistan is not much different than the history of Europe, and from the 1940s to the beginning of the 1970s (1973-1978 to be more exact) the country and government was pretty stable and on the way to becoming very similar to what we call the 'Western world.' I would not say that it has been riddled with corruption for centuries.
What this really boils down to is that the Europeans and the leftist socialist liberals in the US need to pull their collective heads out of where the sun does not shine that is riddled with fecal matter.
