I wish every time a politician proposed a reduction in the growth RATE of a program, and a media pundit called it a short-sighted cruelty, a giant hand would come down from on high and slap the pundit. In the worldview of some, unconstrained spending is the default action; it is the reduction in growth, or any semblance of restraint, that must bear the burden of proof.

We need to go to zero-based budget & make every department & program justify it's budget.

Col Joseph Lenertz - We also must have a need for every department at the federal level there are many things that the feds do that should be pushed down to the states or local governments.

Col Joseph Lenertz A wise woman (Margaret Thatcher) once said "the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other peoples money to spend". Look at what is happening in the most liberal cities in America. The productive, working class is leaving in droves, and there is no one to tax to pay for all their give away programs...
