My mother got me to watch the moon mission. She said it was history we were watching. I am glad I saw it and am thankful my mother had the foresight to make us watch it.

"In 1961, President John F. Kennedy declared “we shall send to the moon, 240,000 miles away from the control station in Houston, a giant rocket… before this decade is out.” On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 was launched by a Saturn V rocket from Kennedy Space Center. "

The Summer of 1969 I remember watching the moon landing. I may have only been four but I remember the launch and landing it really was an historic event! I can't help think of my Grandfather who in one lifetime went from the horse and buggy to man landing on the moon or flying in the space shuttle!

I saw a lot of launches from '65 onward growing up in Akron. When I moved to Daytona, I could see every shuttle launch fly over. It was even more beautiful at night with the rocket fuel glowing.
