It's garbage... they need to go back to the drawing board... first thing, get rid of stupid restrictions on cross-state insurance. Second, explain why *I* have to pay for OB-GYN?

the only way to fix this quagmire is single payer. The US is the only first world nation without it, we pay the most for healthcare and are among the poorest in outcomes.
By removing insurance companies, bringing tort reform, and pharma pricing ala the VA, single payer would in the end greatly reduce the TOTAL cost of healthcare; the amounts paid by individuals, employers, insurance companies and the government. By reducing the total capital outlay and increasing outcomes, costs go down for everyone.

Good plan. NOT! Have you been keeping up with all the problems regarding the VA? Get on the distribution list for the VAOIG, it is a major mess and we want to provide this level of service to all residents of the USA? No thanks, for my family and relatives. We will just stay as we are. BTW, CA is attempting to do the single payer system, I understand it is nice this time of the year.

Master Chief, yes the VA has problems, but believe it or not it is the highest rated healthcare system in the country. The for profit, highly litigated system we have now in civilian care is a total disaster.
You and I are not exposed to it because we have Tricare and Medicare. That combination works quite well, and a single plan that has the best of both would serve all Americans well.

LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow - Haven't seen that study, but I do see the VAOIG reports, you may want to inform them of that. And, if you have the second largest government agency providing service to about 9 million vets compared to the population at whole, what would that cost us them. Any insurance system that provides coverage similar to the VA after 18 months of service or work, would go broke faster that the USPS.

MCPO Roger Collins - it all depends on how it's funded. As I've stated, if you look at the total cash outlay for healthcare in this country, it's actually much higher than in countries with single payer. That's the perspective that is needed. Our system as it is leaves far too many people with no way to access care, and those of us in the middle class, when you consider our cash outlays coupled with what our jobs/benefits cover and what the governments cover, is far too high, especially when compared to the middle class of other countries.
yes they pay more in taxes, but they get far more value for that money.
