How about some real honesty. Nothing breeds poverty like programs to end poverty. All we've done is to make poor people comfortable, to disincentivize the drive to escape poverty. Most of us on RP have seen real poverty, haven't we? We've seen countless people who would love to be poor in America. There's only one thing that move people from poverty. Capitalism. Show them the possibilities. Open the doors. Stand back. Look at what's happening in China and India since capitalism has been introduced. Millions have escaped poverty. Look anywhere that socialism insures a "safety net", providing people with some minimal standard of living. What do you see? People happily living with the minimum. Yes, it's really that simple and I'm certain that well-intentioned people are going to be aghast at what I've written here. They'll vilify me for writing it. Well, vilify away. Frankly, I don't give a damn. All their good intentions get us is on the fast track to hell...

Well said, CPT Jack Durish! Unfortunately, too many of our products are “Made in China” or “Hecho en Mexico” while American manufacturing centers like Detroit are in ruins.
Put the welfare dollars into rebuilding our lost Manufacturing base and welfare will say farewell.

Capt Dwayne Conyers - Actually, what is the problem with products made in China or any other nation? Would you rather pay hundreds and thousands for products that now cost a fraction of what they would cost if made in America? How about we have a govt that gets completely out of the business of helping business? Stop passing regulations that favor one competitor over another. Allow We the People to keep our money and invest it as We see fit. New businesses will create new jobs. Govt spending has exactly the opposite effect.

Sir, I totally agree. The system is rigged but it has been made into a political land mine for anyone attempting to fix it. Medicare is a prime culprit. A female can have 4 children and receive state and Fedetal aid. There is a compensation table of benefits per child. There is no line funding for birth control. If the young girl gets married the government assistance goes away. So, in South Texas we see a trend of unmarried females with an average age of 20 with 3 children and a live in boyfriend because of the system. It's political driven. No one wants to discuss this. But a specific political party has broken the family unit for a secondary cause.

I personally know several people who are are stuck in the system. They're healthy enough to work, but if they work they loose benefits and they won't be for long.
I have no problem giving people a hand up, but hate my tax dollars being used to give a hand out.

The only way to help the poor is grow America's economy and encourage job growth and development. Trump doesn't hate the poor, Republicans don;t hate the poor...

Capt Dwayne Conyers - I can't really argue that... but in order for a economy/society to function properly you need the rich and the poor and the middle class. The middle should be the largest, unfortunately ours is shrinking. We do actually have more rich, but we have more poor as well... and the ones who actually maintain the economy, the middle class, are disappearing... Any thoughts?

Rich Dad Poor Dad is a 1997 book written by Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter. It advocates the importance of financial independence and building wealth through investing, real estate investing, starting and owning businesses, as well as increasing one's financial intelligence to improve one's business and financial aptitude. Rich Dad Poor Dad is written in the style of a set of parables, ostensibly based on Kiyosaki's life.[1]

Capt Dwayne Conyers - I don't think that many politicians actually remember that they are supposed to represent their constituents, anymore. The lobbyists court them and tell them not to worry, if you help us with this, we will get you re-elected (since re-election is the primary goal of all politicians). We, the people, can change that by kicking out each politician that forgets who elects them... my 2 cents! Have a great week buddy!
