Near and dear to my heart. I was in our ship's radio room repairing a transceiver when their distress call came through. The duty radioman and I were both aghast at the complete lack
of a response from Washington. Commander Bucher's subsequent court martial was a complete travesty -- the Navy Department hanging him out to dry to cover up their own malfeasance in this sordid affair. Our ship was actually involved in ELINT monitoring when this occurred -- of course, we didn't have to worry, being a heavily armed destroyer escort. I remember this incident well. My father and five uncles were in the Navy and had highly charged opinions about this.

PO1 Tony Holland Part of My Heart and Soul. Two Ships USS Pueblo (Converted Weather Research Ship) and USS Liberty (Converted Liberty Supply Ship) Poorly equipped for Self Defense. I am the Product of both of those Ships. In My Early Career CTs were not On Ships and if they were it wasn't known and wasn't or Poorly Armed Ships. The End of My Career I was an Outboard Operator on "Battlewagons" Designed to Defend themselves, The Buildings I worked in were named for the Dead from both Ships. My Teachers were the Survivors. This Is My Story Too.

I read your comments as well yes it's the overall sad story I'm surprised President Johnson mr. Give me a silver star for going on a pby as the Navy from Congress is too wimpy to take on the North Koreans.
