As a guy who really wishes he'd stayed in until retirement, it pains me when I see people that've crossed the retirement line screw the pooch. How can they not recognize the value of what they've accomplished? It's baffling.

This is statement that is the most troubling:

"The board’s president will now be an admiral, and the board’s makeup will see a drop in the number of master chiefs and an increase in the number of officers."

Another example of the Mess relinquishing it's authority and responsibility. Not good.

Disagree, never in the past, with the old procedure was there anything like this. I will place my trust in someone that is looking at my service record and potential that has no dog in the fight. Most MCPOs are like me, very opinionated, and will look out for their friends. Officers used the facts at hand and the interviews for their objective selections, IMO.

MCPO Roger Collins - Sounds like you are saying that Officers are professionals and MCPO's aren't. I hope that is not the case. How would this trend for the SCPO and CPO boards?

SCPO Jason McLaughlin - IMO, regardless of O or E, if you have prior knowledge of the individual up for promotion, you should recuse your self from input on them. What I described is a possible chance of bias. If you inferred that I said all MCPOs lack integrity, that is a gigantic stretch. However, I don't see any Officers involved in this scandal.

MCPO Roger Collins - I do not believe MCPO's lack integrity, just the opposite, I believe that the overwhelming majority of MCPO's set the standard for integrity. My understanding of the board process is the board members are required to recuse themselves if they have a prior relationship with a candidate.

Appropriate, but lenient. The old process was far better. Says a guy that got selected first time with 18 years,
