CDR (Join to see) Sir- totally agree! I played OPFOR once in a large-scale exercise. We were told to run it the same way as last year, as that would get the desired results. I, of course as a dumb LT, said screw that. Implemented realistic threats and tactics. Needless to say, the exercise had to take a 48 hour hold because no one knew what was happening with the red forces and blue were taking unprecedented casualties. Once the 2 star got to our HQ, I got reamed and told to play by the book. That thinking leads to stagnation and ineffective forces, and our people deserve better!
