PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - I have seen this movie at the theater in 1971(rerelease) and many times on TV. I am familiar with the Von Traps family and escape from the dad almost forced him to join the wermacht had he not left to Switzerland.

I always wondered why the Nazis were so interested in former Austro-Hungarian Imperial Naval officer Captain Von Trapp. And then I learned. He was an accomplished submariner (having sunk over 46k tons of enemy shipping in WWI)! A valuable skillset in 1938.
