Sigh...and the dehumanization process continues... but it's ok, the article has it's model Black guy; that means every other Black person MUST be ISIS and irrational in their thoughts, and that guy is one of the "good ones". /Sarcasm /Facetious
I keep seeing people say "If you erase history, you're bound to repeat it". Statues are usually NOT kept throughout history as a reminder of what NOT to do.
Statues are usually meant to idolize those figures in a positive manner throughout history. The whole idea is that the figure the statue is modeled after was worthwhile to take the time to build a statue for. The history of the Confederate States' atrocities against slaves and the United States will live on just fine without statues taunting the descendants of its victims. The history will live on, just like every other piece of history that doesn't have a current standing statue on public display; through written texts.
Now if the statues are desired to actually be used for teaching not to repeat history, then they could be placed in properly named museums, where the theme of the exhibits are clearly indicated to be negative and not meant to be repeated.
Who am I kidding though. It's the confederate army descendents who were the true victims of history...
Don't get me wrong, I don't have ill will toward anyone with opposing views, but come on, let's apply SOME perspective.

What other country in the world where you extol, idolize and celebrate the losers of a act of treason.
"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."
We as a country has forgiven the confederate states for this act, it doesn't mean we have to condone their celebrity.
They are being taken exceptionally more respectful than they deserve.

Here's my thoughts on it... IF we do away with history (ie: remove all trace of the Civil War, slavery, etc), does that then mean we can do away with Affirmative Action and similar programs? I mean, after all, if no offenses ever occurred, there is no reason to have those programs, right? What about renaming all the military bases named for Confederate officers? What about Sherman's march on Atlanta? Shouldn't we remove all traces of him since he indiscriminately killed every living thing in his path?
And then, when we're all done with that... What next? Where does the removal of things we're "offended" by stop?
