Jet fuel is biodegradable. It's specific gravity is 0.8, so it floats. Not soluble in water. Slow evaporation rate. Mother Nature will wash it out of the marsh in time. Salt water intrusion causes more damage than this dump of jet fuel did. Hurricanes also cause heavy damage to the marsh.

10 to 1 the residents of Va Beach will use this as yet another means to try and kick the Navy out. That was the only Navy base I have ever been to, where the civilian population makes it well known that they don't want you there.

LT Brad McInnis Always been an Interesting Dynamic between the Local Communities and Navy Facilities that are the Central Business, Definitely a Love/Hate Relationship. Everybody Loves Money but at what Cost to the Local Environment. Plenty of this going on at about every Navy Base I've been at and I can't say I don't appreciate the Problem. I was OOD on a Nuclear Cruiser in Port Bremerton and got to watch an Oiler Several Piers Down Pump a Shit Load of DFM into Puget Sound/Sinclair Inlet due to some Mis-Aligned Valves. I Lived in Jackson Park Navy Housing and the Amount of WWII Leftovers Exposed on the Beach Line was Staggering. Kids Found a Bomb in the Middle of the Baseball Diamond. Remember the Bombs washing up on the Beach in Adak, AK when I was there, Remember the Fun of walking thru a Mine Field to see what the Sign Said on the Other Side (Yeah that was Special). Remember getting Impaled by an Anti-Personnel Spike in Adak also.

I have lived in Virginia Beach my whole career of 24 years in the Navy. There is no love hate relationship with the Navy. This area is throughly behind the Navy. You might have an individual or two who is wacka-doodle, but the majority love and promote the Navy as a whole. My apologies if you have encountered some of those of the former group.
