I am a big supporter of the police but I have real concerns about this shooting and the state of policing in some cases. There were 4 cops on the scene at the time the shots were fired. Being a cop is a very dangerous job and your life may be at risk. If you are not comfortable with that reality and are too afraid to act/react appropriately you should hang up he holster.
It is easy to say "I felt my life was in danger" but the reality is that he had no weapon when he was shot. He was reaching into the car because they allowed him to walk away toward his vehicle. There were two cops on the scene at that time but no one tried to take him down without deadly force.
She drew her weapon and was yelling commands he was not following. Is that a death sentence? I hope not. She was supposedly trained in recognizing people on drugs and how they behaved and indicated she felt he might be on something (PCP) which could explain his non compliance. It turned out he had PCP in his system.
I am not suggesting this guy was a pillar of the community or that he did not make some bad decisions but I am not sure any of those decisions warranted being shot. Then no one even tried to render first aid to him. They just leave him laying there on the street.
While I am sure many might disagree with me, I hold the cops to a high standard of conduct. They are entrusted with much responsibility and have the force of the law behind then and have the ability to take life if the situation warrants it. To those who much responsibility is given, much is expected. A man is dead because his car broke down in the street, he was high on dugs and did not follow instructions and scared her out of her wits. None of the others fired, only her.
