According to the Guancha.cn report, the L-15B is intended to be as combat-capable as some fourth-generation fighters while also capable of advanced LIFT missions.

However, the L-15B will also compete with China's other low-cost combat/LIFT fighters such as the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation FC-1B and the Guizhou Aircraft Industries Corporation FTC-2000G.

The same report indicates that Venezuela may be the first customer for the L-15B, which may be included in a longstanding order for 24 along with L-15A AJTs.
