I guess my first question is if you are in trouble and can;t talk- how can you text?

Well I'm guessing hubby is on a rampage and if he heard the wife talking to police, it could be a problem but not so much if she was only texting. She may have had a few moments where she was able to look at her phone. I hope the program works all over the country.

Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that in April 2016, 911 dispatcher Amanda Berlin called Smart911 that allows dispatchers to send text messages to victims.
Thankfully, 30 seconds later, Amanda was surprised yet relieved to get a text back: “Yes, please send help,” it said. "The woman was able to secretly text with Amanda, who then dispatched authorities to the home and arrested her attacker.
Amanda says Smart911 not only allows dispatchers to text victims, but it also lets members register important information and safety profiles before an emergency strikes — like the number of people in the household, floor plans and details about the children in the home."
