No matter what gun is selected, the accuracy of the weapon is in the hands of the shooter. It could be a revolver, 6 shot, and a dedicated shooter can place 18 rounds on target in under 6 seconds... yes that's is correct... people like that do exist. Shoot 6, reload, shoot 6, reload, shoot 6 more...and all on target in a 9" group or less at 20 feet.
Springfield makes a very good weapon system, so does Colt and Smith. Single stacks or double depends on the shooters hand and comfort.
I believe that USA manufactured weapons should be the only weapons systems in the US Military for common sense reasons. USA manufactures employ US workers, and USA dollars earned stay inside the USA.
I do not have an issue with what caliber is chambered for the weapon, interchangeability with other NATO nations is another common sense issue.
Last issue of my rant... first shot is vital on target. Who shoots the fastest and with accuracy wins the battle 99 out of 100 times. Practice... every day... one magazine or 6-15 rounds... not 3,000 in a day...practice your draw... practice sight picture... sight alignment... get to know where your weapon is without having to look for it... when holstering, or drawing, it should become instinct, a fluid motion without thought... 1,500 times, that is the average repetition of movement that you need to do in order for that movement to become natural.
I enjoy a string line with balloons on a line tied to the string line in a slight breeze. You don't shoot at the balloon, you shoot where the balloon is going to be. Enemy troops move...most with any type of training know that moving and shooting is a survival thing, its harder too shoot a moving target that one that sits in front of you without movement, like the paper targets we shoot all the time.
Think of it like this, as a child how many times did you bite your tongue? It took time for you not to do that every day... and to this day, every now and then you still bite yourself... That is becasue you get in a hurry and forget that accidents and mistakes can happen, that is your reminder to train and take your time and remember your training.
Golden rule, if you are not comfortable with the weapon, the subliminal messages you give yourself will cause you too shoot poorly with it.
My two cents for weapons systems...

I have small hands and yet still like the comfort and feel of double stacks, single is just too small for me.

Do you have any personal experience with Springfield pistols? What do you think of them?

SPC Burt Epps - Does anyone make a trigger kit for it? I recently installed a trigger kit in my Glock and it took out all of the excess travel.

LTC (Join to see) - I've taken it to my local armorer and he says "No" that the travel is a part of the trigger safety mechanism. I don't love the weapon enough to fool with, especially in the 9mm platform. I have CZ 9MM that I prefer over the Springfield 9MM. My Glock 22 Gen4 trigger has been perfect for me, right out of the box.

I carry the XD Mod 2. 4" service 9mm and love it, have fired the 45 XD as well, I am not a real big 45 fan and find it more accurate to fire a 9mm as I can get more rounds down range accurately it than the 45. Personal preference I suppose and don't wish to take anything away from 45 fans, both will put a hole into a target and both will get the job done.
