American Indians Are Still Getting a Raw Deal

In general the federal government is one of the worse run organizations ever devised by humans.

This article is a little misleading. It starts out well by pointing out a bureaucracy that has been wasting money since its inception, but ends badly talking about trust land. Think of it this way When a Chinese investor comes to the United States and buys a bunch of land it is frowned upon. This is what Indian lands are protected from. We do not want our reservations to shrink anymore than they already have. I live on a reservation that has 97% of its land in trust. It is either owned directly by the tribe (think national parks and BLM land for comparison) or by individual members. The other 3% is considered fee land which is owned by Indians and Non Indians alike. The majority of the land that can be used is being used. South Eastern Idaho is where famous Idaho Potatoes come from and a good portion of that is grown on our reservation. How though? The land is leased to farmers. This is a way to use the land and keep it within our Sovereign Nations Control. As far as the other governmental programs that is written into treaty and is non negotiable but it can and should be improved upon.
