Again, if you are a cop and you begin every situation with your gun drawn, finger on the trigger, pointing it at someone BEFORE you even have the facts of the situation you just rolled up on, you are a menace, and need to go do something else as a job. Once you draw on someone, you have two choices: shoot or don't shoot. If you don't shoot, then you are proving that there was no reason for you to draw on the person, and you look like an ass.
Police departments need to give classes on "People Skills" and good public relations. Maybe even a human psychology course here and there.

Exactly! The appropriate way to approach is alert and ready. Gun off safety and holder unsnapped but weapon still in holster. Honestly I think we should go back to the days when there were 2 officers in a unit. But I doubt that will ever happen. The skills have been lost on how to deesclate a situation. I understand that there are situations where deadly force is warranted but that can change also. In the incident where my brothers partner was shot and killed last year they had no intention of taking him alive, but he surrendered. There was a desclation of the situation and deadly force was no longer warranted. He was then placed in another county's jail for his own safety. We have had problems off and on in our community with racist police officers, people will feel as they were raised to feel, it's how you present yourself on the job that makes a difference. After my father retired the new chief implemented a racial profiling policy and once it became obvious and it was brought to the attention of the mayor by myself and my family who are officers he was terminated and we now have a decent police force again. I hope that this continues.

First not every BLM member is calling for cops to be killed, that is not even. Lose to true. Just like any movement a bad element has co-opted the movement and made inflammatory statements. I understand where the police are coming from. I come from a law enforcement family, my father is a retired chief of police and my brother is a sheriffs deputy and his partner was killed last year in a very televised event. I also have a black daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandsons and I have witnessed excessive over policing based on color aimed at them that even her uncle and grandfather agreed were an issue. The way to fix the problem is not to become more aggressive. The BLM movement is not about killing police. It is about trying to get everyone to understand that they are people too. In this day and age there are still some people out there that treat them less than human. My daughter is a college graduate with an MBA and doing very well her family is a middle class law abiding family but because of the color of their skin they are pulled over and questioned because "they looked like they were casing my house" well they have a nice car and they are a family, well dressed, other than the color of their skin they look like they look like everyone else in this neighborhood! So why pull them over? There needs to be a certain level of trust built in the community between law enforcement and the citizens that is the only solution. Fear is not they way to keep the peace. Children need to be able to feel safe a trust the police, not fear them. Obviously you did not watch the video because the kids did say that there was a group that fought at the park while they were there. But the thing that stuck out the most was how one of those kids was crying loudly out of pure fear! Also those poor kids were scolded by their mom for playing in the park. It sounds like their mother will not let them out again out of pure fear of the police. With that level of force you will have innocent people trapped in their homes, children that are not allowed to have a childhood just because they are not white!

Indeed it is. I understand officers have a job to do, but the was not necessary nor did the fit the description.
