I'll admit it! My wife loves the show and we watch it together! She has read all the books too.

Wife has the books and we have recorded all episodes. Her Clan Sinclair comes from extreme NE near Orkney Isles. They have more influence from the Nordics up there. I like the series because it's based loosely on a period of history. The MacKintosh Clan aka Chattan Confederation comes from areas that are in the series, Inverness and Moy. In one episode they refer to tax collections and how the MacKenzie had not gotten it as badly as the MacKintosh. I'll admit the time travel thing is a tad bizarre but people from that time had some very strange spiritual beliefs. It was a way for the writer to link past and present to develop the story. The Celts and Picts had some very strange beliefs and practices. There are stones on the battlefield at Culloden for some of the Clans that fought there. Many of the episodes deal with actions leading up to that battle and the successful raid before it.
