MAJ James Woods
SSG (Join to see) - He has a bachelors in ME and an interest and studies in other fields of science. He's an entertainer and effective communicator on different topics. He's a spokesperson within the science community cause he's an effective communicator. He's representing an organization founded by Carl Sagan, Bruce C. Murray, and Louis Friedman, and has over 40,000 members like Neil deGrasse Tyson. So who would you want having to talk in simple terms to the Trump administration, Bill Nye or deGrasse Tyson?

Cpl Jeff N. - So you discount any scientific knowledge he has because he's a mechanical engineer? That makes no sense.

MAJ James Woods - No James, I just don't accept him as a "scientist". I know, I know, he says "science guy" so he can try to fool you into thinking he is a scientists when he isn't. I don't care that he has a TV show and likes to play scientist. I do have a problem when people try to use him as an expert. He is not. He is just another guy with an opinion.

Cpl Jeff N. - That's too bad. Guess what matters is the scientific community accepts him and allows him to represent them on occasions as a spokesperson to communicate any collective message that represents groups within their community. Being an educator and entertainer makes him a more effective communicator (sort of dumbing down the technical speak for general populace).

Good suggestions except for putting a man on Mars. What's the point? Send robots. The cost of outfitting a rocket to house a crew for months and have enough power to return is prohibitive. Suggest using the money to build a Moon base for future rocket launchings.

I totally agree. As a kid, I was a big fan of Space:1999 tv show with Martin Landau. Totally believed that one day we would be living on the moon by the 21st century. But I was young, it was the 80s, and I wanted to be an astronaut not a soldier back then. Hahaha!

I believe this video may answer a lot of those questions about why we have not committed to going. Obama had challenged NASA to come up with a plan and a budget to travel to Mars. Like everything back then, every scientist with anything to do with space travel saw a chance to grab a blank check. The cost skyrocketed and greed killed our trip to Mars. NASA is the reason NASA has not got the funding. Now that NASA has competition from Space X they may have to actually work under a budget.
