I'm rather reminded of Gen Eisenhower having been President of Columbia Univ after WW2 before he was elected, whom my uncle, one of his radio operators met, as I've related on here many times, the Gen actually remembered him slightly when my uncle finished his bachelors at Columbia on the GI Bill, when giving him his diploma, the side to the Gen was positively aghast at the sheer effrontery of my uncle, who was the comedian of his unit, he also was there when the German surrendered, and helped send the VE Day surrender Telex from Gen Eisenhower to Gen Marshall, he also swiped a copy, my cousins still have it in a safe deposit box, he and my aunt showed it in the Valley Stream Library on LI every Meml Day, 4th of July, and Vets Day...I could quite seriously see an analogous effort to have Adm McRaven drafted to run as well, however, that was just a notion that'd occurred to me, in precisely the same fashion Gen Colin Powell had equally seriously been thought of as well, honest....

I kean, if nothing else, the circumstances clearly do seem rather analogous, ya know? Ann d God knows, he's be just as qualified as either of them, certainly....
