Not so at Tegucigalpa Airport.
Fly San Pedro Sula or fly into San Salvador if you don't have to be in Tegucigalpa. That's how I fly yearly to go see my mother.

HONDURANS are known to cross their fingers and pray when planes approach the central American country’s international airport and applaud after a successful descent.

In 1999 we went to Honduras to help provide post-Hurricane Mitch support. Our C-23s had to be based at Soto Cano with explict prohibitions on flying into Tegucigalpa (MHTG). No biggie. However, in 2003 we had a mission that took us to MHTG. We were cleared for the straight-in to rwy 20 at over 9000', 5 miles out. There was no way we could have dumped over 5500' in less than 5 miles. It took the controller a minute to figure that out after the crew realized we couldn't make it from that direction. He ended up giving us a left downwind to rwy 02, thankfully. Lesson learned: The controllers can get you killed too. Fortunately, the tactical training we got prior to our Iraq deployments taught the pilots "alternate" ways of descending quickly, in short distances, without exceeding aircraft limitations.
