I cringe whenever I hear people speak of "a living Constitution". Invariably, they mean that the law should be interpreted in a way that pleases them. Or, as the author of this article might say, those who believe in the concept of a "Living Constitution" want to replace our Republic with a democracy, one in which the majority rules (so long as they are the majority). Have you ever noticed how the worst, most despotic places on Earth label themselves "The Democratic People's Republic of ..."? There's a reason. Democracy is despotic. They represent the tyranny of the masses. Thus, those who wish to reinterpret the Constitution to suit their "vision" are actually attempting to impose their vision on the rest of us.

Noam Chomsky Explains Why Dems Are Suddenly Scared Of Putin
Noam Chomsky spoke about how the United States uses fear and panic of the Soviet Union to justify taking action throughout the globe. Jimmy Dore breaks it do...
Oligarchy likes it when Democrats say we're a Democracy (we aren't) and Republicans say we're a Republic (we aren't)...
It's unfortunate to be in agreement that Democracies do tend to be despotic. Chomsky (he's great once you get to Noam;) speaks about this to the discomfort of his interviewers here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18eQ_ODEGVM
As far as "Republics" go, we've got the Congo, Ghana, Cyprus, South Africa, and ancient Rome...but not the Divided Empire of America...

SPC Duncan Koebrich - The United States is not an Oligarchy. The people in the United States just don't do enough research to know what/who they're voting into office. We stick to the same two parties time after time despite the parties not delivering on their promises- and the parties know that they can get away with it. Why? Because people are too lazy to look for an alternative party. They would rather stick to the people the MSM talk most about.
The United States is a Republic. It's just one that has a voluntarily ignorant electorate and an electoral college that doesn't fulfill its function.

Noam Chomsky - Superpower Confrontation 1/3
In 1985 there were two superpowers and an arms race that engulfed the world. Noam Chomsky (Institute Professor at MIT), Marshall Goldman (Associate Dir. Russ...
PFC Jonathan Albano - I can agree with most of that, absolutely, and while I do not normally have sympathy for self induced pain, I cannot tolerate the MSM poison hurting people on the left and right whom I love. I can't agree that the electorate is "voluntarily ignorant", nor do I view cognitive dissonance in the face of constant hypocrisy as a choice.
Writing that "The United States is a Republic" doesn't convince me that we aren't being subjected to Oligarchy. *How* is the US a Republic? To which other "Republic" could the US be compared? Do you agree, disagree, or are you voluntarily ignorant of what Noam Chomsky had to say in that interview? Here's a link to the interview itself, without Jimmy Dore and that "Robert" guy who is trying to sound smart: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TtH09RKNPQ

SPC Duncan Koebrich - I can understand how it is perceived to be an Oligarchy, however, this is a case where the people have a say in who leads them and are accomplices whether by ignorance, willingness or perceived duress. The power to change it still rests 100% with the people. They merely need to choose not to be bound by the two party system and actually vote for somebody who will represent their interest. An Oligarchy is a Governmental system in which the people do not posses that sort of power short of rebellion.
Far too often people blame on the Government what they should on themselves.

The Constitution is not a living document, it's a legal document. And like any other legal document, you can't arbitrarily redefine terms to suit the convenience of the moment. (Try doing that with your mortgage or custody agreement and see how the other involved parties like it.)
It is, of course, flexible enough to change with the times. We call that flexibility "the amendment process." It's the only constitutionally approved method of updating the Constitution. It isn't easy, but it was never supposed to be easy.
People who prattle on about the Constitution being a "living document" are merely people who want to change the Constitution to suit themselves without having to go through that pesky amendment process.
