I went to grad school just before the Navy Yard closed. One day, I got back to my apartment and discovered I'd left a box of laundry soap under my cart in the parking lot outside the commissary.
I called and told the person on the phone: "This is Captain Wilson. I left a box of laundry soap under a cart in the parking lot."
"Yessir!" came the reply. "We just had one brought in. What brand is it?"
"Tide," I replied.
"No problem, Sir." said the voice on the other end. "We'll bring it to your quarters. What number?"
"Oh, no. I don't live on base, I'm an army captain going to Temple University."
There was a pause. "Did you say ARMY captain?"
"That's right."
"No problem, Sir," came the reply. "We'll save it for you behind the back counter." . . .
