This topic was brought up several times over the past few days. What I will say here is the same thing I said there. As one of the five senior user admins here on RallyPoint, with all the "issues" we have had, I'm glad we have never faced something like this. And I can tell you that if someone even suggested such an action here, they would be shown the door the ASAP.

Completely unacceptable. There is no room for this in a military that places high value on the integrity and discipline of it's soldiers. Of all places, of all agencies, the US military is expressly equipped with the means to nip these issues in the bud and shut down this kind of behavior outright.

It's a leadership issue.

There is more to the story than this - the journalists in question are out there to make a name for themselves, not because they really care about this kind of behavior/issue. Things like this have been going on forever ("naked mediums"), and all of a sudden there is an uproar.... meanwhile, there are troops disembarking, officially, in Syria...

I would point out that before we try to talk about "it's just nude photos," a big part of the issue was that the photos were accompanied by profane and aggressive commentary, such as extensive rape suggestions, etc. And a number of the photos appear to have been created by actually stalking women and taking photos of them when they were not aware. This isn't just "people without clothing ended up on the Internet." In my mind this is a serious violation of the trust one places in one's fellow service members, no matter if they know them personally or not.
