My wife discusses racism for First Nations Canadian Indians of North American descent in Canada. She showed me a video of some idiot with a small penis who had a big 4x4 was yelling at this Canadian Sikh to go back to his country and the Canadian Sheikh said to him I was born here I'm Canadian! My wife suspects that Donald Trump's anti-immigration rhetoric has given the green light to racist idiots now thinking that Donald Trump's rhetoric is the new Norm. I know Donald Trump is not a racist I know he has black friends gets along with everyone but the redneck idiots of the trailer parks and the neo-nazis think that his rhetoric is validating their right to be racist which is wrong!

LTC (Join to see) Excellent article. I'd hate for it to be lost under my post which is tagged for a topic on racism, crime and immigration.

Come on... Are you really saying that someone who is mentally well, who wouldn't have shot somebody, or attacked somebody under the Obama Administration thinks it is OK now?

SPC Kevin Ford - Because laws were enforced, juries stopped being fixed, and people were punished.

Maj John Bell - That's part of it. But it's been shown that people don't just stop doing an action because they think they will get punished. The social stigma plays into it as well. As something becomes more normalized in a society, even if illegal and enforced, it is more likely to occur.

It is a large part of why pot use has been so common among otherwise lawful citizens despite harsh enforcement. It is also why efforts to curb smoking have been so successful despite it never being made illegal, it was stigmatized. Even worse, in many cases as the social stigma lessens then over time the chance of it being prosecuted will lessen as well worsening the problem. Boys will be boys...

What we have now is anecdotal evidence and historical analysis on what is likely to happen.

I think we may be entering a "chicken or the egg" conversation here.

I too don't like anecdotal evidence but it is what I have. Growing up in Tucson in the early 70's getting picked up by the police for underage drinking, or underage tobacco use meant a "pour out" if no one was driving or too badly hammered, And a one way ride home to Dad and mom if you were driving or got mouthy; no arrest, no police records, no trial. At age 10, I could walk into any corner store and buy cigarettes or a six pack of beer or a pint and just tell the clerk "My Dad sent me". By the time I was 14 I didn't even have to lie. Now the police run stings on corner stores for selling to minors.

Getting picked up for Marijuana possession was the Red Line Express to Juvenile Hall. The pot smokers were shunned for fear of guilt by association. Even being in the company of the person holding the Marijuana was going to get you a ride to the station and an arrest record. Now it is virtually the opposite.
