Well, we have exactly 1/2 of the story on this one, Ali's. Customs cannot make a statement about individual screenings so not sure how we will get the other 1/2.
It makes no sense to me that his mother producing a picture of her with Ali Senior would get her through but her stating Ali junior was her son would not get him through? Pictures can be photo shopped so why would that work for her?
These agents, more than likely, all worked for Customs prior to the election, they know the rules of engagement and they have not changed. Not sure what happened here.

Cpl Jeff N. That can't be allowed to stand as an explanation. Such privacy laws were designed to protect the people they interact with, not the Customs agency. If the public cannot examine he actions of such agencys and they are allowed to hide behind privacy laws they will have little accountability to the public for their actions. That is unlikely to lead anywhere good.

SPC Kevin Ford - I agree, I would like to hear (or see if video exists) Custom's side of the story. If they have mavericks out there gun slinging with the law they need to be retrained or possible terminated.
If we have someone that is putting out false stories he should be prosecuted. If Ali was traveling on a US Passport, as he should have been as he was born in Philly, then what is the issue? Was he on a one way ticket coming in? That will get you some scrutiny. Did he say or do something that pricked the agents concern. I have no idea.

Cpl Jeff N. - I agree it could be a bunch of nothing. I would assume he's under a US Passport but you know what happens when you assume. ;)

Ever been to Miami Int airport? I stood in line for 2 hours and questioned by immigration officials too. I they asked, "Do you have anything to declare?" So depending on how it is spun I was held for 2 hours and questioned. I know this is hard to believe, but people tend to tell a story to meet an agenda by exaggerating the truth.

Declaring something is different from being asked if you are a Muslim or not AND after your mother that was with you was already waved through

If that were true then you are correct, but since that is contrary to protocol so either the agent was acting on his own or the story is not being told correctly. If that were the case that every Mohammad (The most popular name for males in the world.) were asked if they were Muslim there would be numerous complaints and the news would be all over it. Since that is not the case I am suspect of this story. That has not stopped the hundreds of stories based one just one article.
