Ok first off as an IT this ticks me off. I don’t care if it is a Dem or a Rep or who they were supporting or hired them. It’s the ZERO oversight and the off-site stored data. Who signed off on that to happen in our Nations Capital? Who allowed them to walk off with thousands worth of IT Equipment or failed to follow the 3 quotes rule for purchasing equipment?
As for the “Cloud” I really hate that term as IT let me explain what the “Cloud” is….
ITS SOMEONE ELSE’S COMPUTER!!!! I’m going to say that again ::::SOMEONE ELSE’S COMPUTER:::
That’s it.. end of story… Your Cloud could be in someone’s basement and he / she / they / them have cart blanch to review anything you put on it. Sure they may say they don’t but you will never know till it bites you in the arse. For any lawmaker to store anything .GOV in the “cloud” shows a total lack of common sense. (I know its Washington and there is more common sense in a Nuke school but still)
Here are a few simple guidelines I like to beat into people (some days that needs to be a literal statement)
1: Password is every idiot’s password!
2: Face book games where you pick your superhero name based on your D.O.B is a great way to help an identity thief. (To be hones don’t get me started on FB stupidity)
3: If it’s on the internet assume it’s NOT true until you verify it.
4: Just because you saw it on (insert TV show / Movie) does not make it possible.
5: No one uses 1337 anymore.
6: Just because it pops up on your screen does NOT mean you should click yes.
7: Assume someone wants whatever your working on at all times.
And for the love of Poseidon when an IT says reboot your computer stop arguing and do it.
I have many more but I need to stop as that could take a month to type out.
