Today, I pulled up for my run at parking lot and a Red Tailed Hawk perched on a black minivan. At the moment I exited my vehicle the hawk flew down into some shrubbery. I conducted my stretching and after finishing decided I would try to see if the hawk had left the shrubbery with any vermin that it might have killed. I circled and approached the shrubbery. I heard the hawk jostling around in the bush. I stepped within 5-6 feet of the bird and it quickly flew off.
Bird watching is a new phenomenon for me. Needless to say I felt privileged to have observed a predatory bird and lucky that the hawk didn't decide it was a little more hungry than a rat for breakfast and gouge my eyes out as a delicacy.
