Some of us need to swallow our pride, push our egos to the side and police after our social media accounts. "It's a free country" is not a great opening to an argument when you're ignorant to existing policies.
Yesterday I posted a link on UCMJ and the Misuse of Social Media. It was pretty comprehensive (some would argue, vague) about violations. Below is a link to DoD Directive 1444-10 which specifically highlights the engagement with politics for Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, even the Coast Guard, or even just a TSA officer at the airport.
Don't even get me started if you're a sheriff, state trooper, or some kind of a civil servant. There's another arena of legislation called the Hatch Act (look it up). Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF)... We owe to the next generations of warriors to remain professional. As I said in my previous post (on UCMJ and Social Media Misuse), we were never stripped of our Freedom of Speech, we were being trained to be elite diplomats who know how to bite their tongue and control their impulses. Don't be that guy.

Thanks for the post. I steer away from politics as much as I can but on my FB I notice service members posting "memes", although they are humorous, I wonder if those are classified by this.

I stay away even when it's implicit, indirect, unspoken, buried between the lines. I call that stepping on a sleeping lion's tail; it does not happen accidentally-you had to have known what you're doing and the consequences span from nothing (but you better RUN!!!) to "you're lunch".
