This is a neat and new approach to Submarine Warfare. Control over littoral waters seems to be the forte of these smaller newer U-Boats and the Germans seems to have really gotten the handle on it with their version of hydrogen/oxygen engine fuel cells and engines. BUT, think of the research that went into the development of these boats.
Think of the possibilities, IF we can get this concept down right for automobiles and even aircraft, we may actually have a way to get away from petroleum and into green power for our best love affair - driving Ms. Daisy today. Hydrogen powered cars with no pollution only water as a byproduct of ignition.
Hindenburg and other Zeppelins did not use Hydrogen as fuel, just as flotation. The Hydrogen cells were not totally shielded and explosion proofed.
