Time for a history lesson (which some sorely need)... The One China policy was adopted by Nixon to help encourage closer ties with the Chinese Communist Government. Nixon recognized that, although both China and the Soviet Union shared a common ideology, they also shared a common border that was a point of contention between them. (Russia has a large land mass rich in natural resources that China desperately needs and little population to occupy it - thus there was continual strife along that border.) If Nixon could drive a wedge between them by coddling up to the Chinese, he could upset the Soviet's aggression. Turns out he was right. Well, the Soviet Union is gone and China is the greater aggressor. Why shouldn't we warm up relations with Russia? Not only would an alliance with Russia help deter Chinese aggression, but also give us access to Russia's resources from which we could profit by helping the Russians develop them. So yes, those who disagree with Trump on this one are ignorant of the history and potential, or, in a word, dumb.

CPT Jack Durish . Jack, it must be a labor of love trying to teach those that have not paid attention their entire life. All the best but I think this will have all of the effect of a 5.56 round off an M1A1 Abrams armor.

What more proof do we need that the Left is Comunism and Dictatorship in disguise. They hated McArthyism and were in favor of the USSR. They are enamoured with Cuba. They hate Israel and make deals with Iran. They grow government at every opportunity. They want America to be a Socialist nation...

You can always find a way to slant the historical event to favor your ideology. Nixon's China gambit did not cause the Soviet Union to collapse. Simplifying ones version of how historical events play out without taking in the complexity of entire series of events is DUMB and dangerous. Putin could not have written a better version of history that suits Putin.

The only problem with Jack's position is that he expects Russia to act rationally. They have demonstrated they can't and they won't. But ole Vlad went on his recent tear Russia was becoming moving closer to Europe. The Russians had a market for their Natural Gas and Petroleum in Europe. Germany looked at finding more ways to engage with Russia.

It unfortunate that Jack can't see the number of hospitals targeted by the Russians, that he ignores the UKR people forced to live in a most primative condition because Vlad wants his empire back.

In the former member of the Soviet Union, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia the monuments left by the Soviets to the dead of WWII are now called Statues of the Unknown Rapist.

He wants to buddy up with a country that makes war crimes part of their standard TTPs. Fortunately saner mines will prevail

We share a lot more in common with Russia than we do the Middle East. Why not seek to warm relations with them. If you look back over the last 50 years we have done everything we could to undermine their interests. We don't have to be buddy buddy with them but there are areas such as combatting terrorism that we can work together with them on.

Would you say that anyone who still believes the Earth is flat is stupid? Sometimes a fact is simply a fact, and people who refuse to see the obvious are just stupid people. Russia is in a position to become superpower again eventually, and maintaining good relationships with them is a smart move. Anyone who disagrees with that simple fact is indeed stupid. So this post is yet another example of sensationalist or false news.

Back in the mid to late eighty's, I thought that China was a much larger threat than Russia. I still feel that way. Even though we are much more involved with China, they are out to milk the United States for all it's worth. Once we are no longer a useful resource to them, they will show their true colors.
