The bottom line is that police officers are not paid to tie and were already at a disadvantage given that the felon had a long gun as opposed to a pistol. Warnings are not necessary when the threat is credible, police have the right to defend their lives with the use of deadly force. It is of no consequence that the felon says he didn't point the gun at officers, what matters is the officers perception during the armed encounter and their ability to articulate their reasons behind their response to the threat presented to them.
